Michael Cooke / Training Project Manager

Mick Cooke joined the Royal Navy in 1965 and retired after 40 years 7 months of service in 2006. An electrical specialist by trade he has served in a wide variety of ships from fixed wing catapult launch aircraft carriers to Type 42 destroyers. During his career Mick has travelled worldwide and served in operations including the Aden conflict, Northern Ireland, the Gulf and Op Telic. He served on the Staff of Flag Officer Sea Training as Lead Electrical Specialist for Type 42 Destroyers and Foreign Navy Vessels and as training manager for RN ratings electrical training. He has also undertaken a number of managerial appointments including the Second Sea Lords Personnel Liaison Team, Executive Warrant Officer of HMS EDINBURGH and Executive Warrant Officer of the Royal Navy’s Command Leadership and Management training school. He was awarded the MBE in 2000 and is a proud recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal.

Pete Botten / Training Designer/Instructor

Pete Botten joined the Royal Navy in 1973 and retired after 30 years and 7 months in 2004. He served on a variety of ships from aircraft carriers to ocean going survey vessels and has served in various operations worldwide. An electrical specialist by trade, he has been responsible for the maintenance, repair and fault-finding on a full range of propulsion and power and distribution systems. Pete’s last appointment was as a training instructor in the Royal Navy lead Engineering School teaching a range of Electrical Power and Distribution systems and equipment to RN and civilian personnel. Since leaving the RN, Pete has had 2 further training/instructional appointments teaching a combination of RN and civilian students in both Military and civilian electrical practices at BTEC, NVQ and City and Guilds levels 2 and 3. Pete is a qualified teacher in Further Education.

David Atkinson / Training Designer/Instructor

Dave Atkinson joined the Royal Navy in 1984 and retired after 22 and half years service in 2006. An electrical engineer specialist by trade and has served on AirCraft Carriers, Frigates and Type 45 Destroyer in various roles. During his career Dave has travelled worldwide visiting over 40 countries and has served in operational Theatres including the Gulf, Kosovo and Op telic. In-between sea service he has been employed in different Instructional duties, Teaching a range of technical personnel from Junior Mechanics to Postgraduate officers on various subjects from Power and Distribution systems/Equipment to Specialist maintainer courses. On leaving the RN Dave continued to instruct Military and Civilian personnel at all levels in Various NVQ led and Specialist Maintainer Courses including High Voltage Management and safe system of work practices

Jim McIsaac / Training Designer/Instructor

Jim McIsaac joined the Royal Navy in 1973 and retired after 32 years in 2005. A pure Electrical specialist by trade, he has served in a wide variety of ship from Aircraft Carriers, Commando carriers, Assault ships, Destroyers, Frigates, and the Royal Navy’s Antarctic survey Ship HMS Endurance. He has served in wide range of operations supporting British, NATO and Allied forces. He has twice served on the Staff of Flag Officer Sea Training as a Lead Electrical specialist conducting training in Royal Navy, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Foreign Navy Vessels. Shore employment has been mainly at HMS Sultan the Royal Navy’s School of Marine Engineering. Where he undertook a variety of roles including Instructional an, Training Design duties as well as being responsible for Instructor planning and Facility management roles. On leaving the Service he was employed for 3 years to instruct Power Electronics to a wide range of students both Naval and civilian. Seeking further challenges in these roles he joined MABWAY in March 2008.

Andy Sweet / Training Designer/Instructor

Andy Sweet joined the Royal Navy in 1979, and after just over 23 years of service retired in 2002. Specialising in Electrical and Electronics, but also as a fitter and turner, he has served in a variety of ships and establishments from Frigates to Type 42 and 22 Destroyers. During his career Andy has travelled extensively including to both the Arctic and Antarctic circles. He has undertaken a variety of managerial roles in his career including responsibility for Gas Turbine removal and replacement on warships of varying classes. He has had single responsibility for a team of engineers maintaining Power and propulsion systems on HMS Manchester. After leaving the service Andy has been employed installing and servicing intruder alarms, CCTV systems and Fire alarm systems. More recently employed at the Royal Navy School of Marine Engineering he was the Navy’s primary training instructor for fault finding, defect repair for Power Electronics Static Frequency Changers, and Static Phase Inverters. He also instructed civilian apprentices for various accredited courses.

Geoff Lindsey / Training Designer/Instructor

Geoff Lindsey joined the Royal Navy in 1976 and retired after completing 32 years service. He has served in a variety of ships from aircraft carriers to Type 42 destroyers gaining experience of both steam and gas turbine propulsion systems, and has served in a variety of conflicts including the Falklands and the first Gulf War. Geoff has held a variety of Engineering Management positions such as afloat support manager within Captain Fleet Maintenance organisation and the Inspector of Diving (Engineering) within the Royal Navy Diving safety organisation. He has also served in the Royal Navy school of Marine Engineering where he devised and delivered training packages for both junior and senior staff.
