The emphasis is on self help, covering basic maintenance and repair tasks. This will allow owners to undertake these tasks themselves rather than incur boatyard costs. It will also give them the ‘get you home’ skills to tackle problems which may arise at sea
Yacht Owners Training Course covers the following:-
** Diesel Engines**
- An understanding of the construction and operation of marine diesels.
- Basic maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair operations.
- This section closely follows the syllabus of the MCA’s Approved Engine Course.
Electrical systems
- Engine starting circuits
- Batteries and charging
- The functioning, fault diagnosis and repair of 12v and 24v DC.
- Systems.
- Basic AC. generation.
- The use and application of electrical test equipment.
- Basic soldering, crimping, termination and cable repair techniques.
Auxiliaries
Basic operation and maintenance of:-
- Fuel system
- Freshwater system.
- Grey and black water systems.
- Hydraulics.
General
- Environmental Awareness
- Fire prevention
- Safe handling and storage of Fuel, Propane, Flammables etc
